Workshop Facilitator: Gary Yates, Director
Professor Gary Yates is the Chair of the Speech
Communication and Theatre Arts Department, Director, CAU Players.
A distinguished director and professional actor, Professor Yates oversees the Theatre Arts and Speech Communication Department at Clark Atlanta University(CAU). He also serves as the Director of the CAU Players and assists in developing the theatrical performance season for each academic year.
As an Actor, Mr. Yates has over 25 years of professional experience in the area of regional theatre, film and television. He started his acting career in New York working in Off-Broadway theatre and daytime soaps – Ryan’s Hope and Search For Tomorrow, to name a few. His stage credits range from theatre performances in New York, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Chicago to Atlanta. He has taught directing at North Carolina State University, Bowie State University, and Spelman College, just to name a few.
Mr. Yates received his M.F.A. in Acting at Indiana University-Bloomington School of Theatre and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Shaw University, Raleigh, North Carolina. Today, he continues to work professionally, most recently with radio and television commercials for the Georgia Lottery.
